Jovany Jimenez (he/him), Applied Mathematics B.S.

Jovany Jimenez

Hi, I’m Jovany! I grew up in the Bay Area and for as long as I could remember, my one and only goal was to go to college. Both my parents immigrated to the U.S. and their struggles with education became my fuel. But once I got into UCSC, I was honestly a bit lost and clueless. When I first decided on Applied Mathematics as my undergrad major a few years ago, I didn’t know nor think about where it could lead me. My instincts (and naive thoughts) told me that math minus proofs was what I was made for. I thank these naive thoughts of mine because the more I traversed through the major, the more I realized how all-encompassing it was, and that it provided the perfect opportunity to delve deeper into whatever resonated with me. I continue to pursue this major because it helps create and develop my goals that I didn’t and couldn’t have before. I’m pursuing the SciCAM Master’s because of how (scarily) perfect it is for my newfound goals of working with PDEs, code, and supercomputers in the future. I haven’t been in the program for long, but I can already say that the supportive people and environment is my favorite thing about it. I look forward to experiencing this to its fullest, as well as reciprocating it, and thriving because of it!
